Gần 15h ngày 20/2, khi chạy ngang qua đường ngang dân sinh thuộc xã Lộc Thủy (Phú Lộc, Thừa Thiên Huế), tàu hỏa chạy hướng Bắc - Nam va chạm với xe ben.

Thông tin ban đầu, 3 người thiệt mạng tại chỗ, trong đó có hai người trên xe ben, một người trên tàu hỏa. Hành khách trên các toa tàu an toàn.
